Lucky For Us: Kids Toys Have Become More Refreshing than New Socks
You’ve planned the world’s best birthday parties for someone who is too young to remember them. You’ve read more books in the past few years (or months) on children than you’ve read for yourself in your whole life. You hate GMOs even though you’re not sure why exactly. You know everything about baby formula. You’re ready to have the birds and the bees talk and he’s not even walking yet. Because of you, the world will be a better place because it will be run by your wonderful children. We get it, you’re an amazing parent.
Now…don’t take this the wrong way, but we’re here to tell you that sometimes it’s OK to do things that have nothing to do with your baby. It’s OK to take 20 minutes. Sometimes it’s OK to do yoga in the living room, shop for yourself, read a fictional book, have lunch with a friend, or even just scroll through Pinterest with your eyes glazed over. And why is that ok? We’ll spare you the lecture on self care–we know you’ve heard it, and when it comes to your children, you’re not going to put yourself first for a while. Nope. The reason that it’s OK is that children’s toys have progressed SO massively since the we were kids ourselves that sometimes letting them just interact with a toy can be…and just stay with me on this one…a good way for them to spend a bit of the day.
Of course we know that a parent’s love cannot be beat, and we’re not just saying that to make you feel better. Study after study has shown that nothing beats nurture when it comes to child development. But in a safe environment with mommy or daddy close by, it’s also OK to let them explore outside of that relationship. Honestly, that’s why Lil’ Jammerz was created. To expand our children’s minds, to expose them to music, to boost brain development, language skills and motor skills.
That’s right, your precious little baby that needs you to feed her, change her, live for her… that is a tiny human being who is going to develop their own tastes and strengths. We encourage all parents to find that balance between exposing your kids to cool stuff and stepping back to let them check it out themselves. Whether you’re letting them explore the timeless joys of music with Lil’ Jammerz or letting them paint their own picture, you’re letting them discover themselves. But with Lil’ Jammerz, you have the added benefit of being able to let them to wild in their carrier without having to worry that they’re eating paint every 30 seconds.
You’re the best parent…but are you the best musician?
So if you’re a musician yourself, ignore us here. But for the rest of us: If your favorite class in college wasn’t taught by a professor, but by someone who just really wanted you to enjoy the subject without knowing anything about it…would you have learned as much? Let your baby listen to classical and focus on it, let them listen to lyrics that inform their language skills. Interaction with you cannot be beat, and your love is better than anything else. But if you’ve got that in the bag, why not expose them to something new that you can’t provide?
You do it anyway
We can’t tell you how many times we’ve walked by babies in strollers with their eyes glazed over just sitting there. If taking your baby for a stroll is the way you get exercise, fresh air, a change of scenery, have a phone call, then that is awesome. Our only suggestion is adding Lil’ Jammerz to your stroller and make the experience as rewarding for your kiddo as it is for you! Same with the car seat or crib. Even add them to interactive baby chairs at home too.
If you’re a parent, you’re already a multitasker. Interactive, inspiring toys like Lil’ Jammerz are a win-win. When you need a timeout, make it count.
